Grades 9-11 Planning
Freshman Year
Fall
- Set goals in classes (grades) and personal life
- Get involved in extracurricular activities, sports, and/or volunteer work
- Begin looking into college and career resources
- Research the career area(s) of interest
- Talk with parents or a supportive adult about plans after high school
- Visit a college campus
Spring
- Meet with the Academic Counselor to discuss sophomore year and possibly a four year plan
- Continue participating in extracurricular activities, sports, and/ or volunteer work
- Continue researching college and career resources
- Visit a college campus
- Begin developing portfolio for college or a job
Sophomore Year
Fall
- Check classes on four-year plan with Academic Counselor
- Explore careers by interviewing adults or researching an occupation of interest
- Visit college campuses and attend college and career fairs
- Focus on academic work and meet goals for good grades
- Continue participating in extracurricular activities, sports, and/ or volunteer work
Spring
- Volunteer for an organization during the summer
- Research college and financial aid information
- Meet with the Academic Counselor to review four-year plan
- Focus on academic work and meet goals for good grades
- Continue participating in extracurricular activities, sports, and/ or volunteer work
Junior Year
Fall
- Meet with Academic Counselor to review four-year plan
- Work on grades and seek help where needed (Teacher Office Hours)
- Visit colleges and attend college fairs
- Attend presentations when University Reps are present
Spring
- Meet with Academic Counselor to review updated four-year plan
- Continue participating in extracurricular activities, sports, and volunteer work (emphasize leadership positions if possible)
- Begin creating your Post Secondary School Plan
- Begin to research and plan for financing college or post graduation plan
- Update your portfolio for a job or college application
- Begin working on college essays
